These Days (Nico Version cover) ~ St. Vincent

Songs I will master on guitar before 2012: 2 of 3

(There are a lot versions of this song, and even Jackson Browne himself doesn’t play it one way, but I’m going for Nico’s version. Annie here more or less follows that version- splendidly, if I may add.)

One of the best performances of the night. I’m in this video briefly too, ha.

St. Vincent - Your Lips Are Red @ ACL Live Austin, TX 10-24-2011

Annie Clark, I love you because your talent and work inspires me to become a better person. I am grateful I met you (how can you be so nice?!), and your show yesterday was nothing short of magnificent. I urge everyone to do whatever they can to see St. Vincent live. It. Is. Worth. It.

So tomorrow I will be traveling to Austin to see the amazing Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent. To say the very least, I am excited as fuck. To be honest, I have been a very passive fan of her since the release of Marry Me. Of course I got hooked with ”Marry Me” (the song), but I remember feeling turned off by all the dissonance in the rest of the album, and not much changed when Actor was released. I was really into Death Cab and Bright Eyes at the time, and really could not be bothered with albums that weren’t immediately catchy and/or lacked glockenspiels. I remember St. Vincent coming to Austin multiple times and writing her off. I remember talking to fans of hers while in line for a Conor Oberst & Jenny Lewis show and giving my opinion of how ‘she’s not really alllll that great’. Idiot.

About a year and a half ago, I came across ”The Party” on shuffle, and just was blown away. I immediately listened to  Marry Me, and  Actor, and found myself in love. These were albums I had listened to many times before, and at best thought were ‘good’, but now they are ‘marvelous’. What clicked, I don’t know, but I’m glad it did. She is everything an artist should strive to do with his or her music. Overall she has been hugely influential in my view of music, inspiring in what I hope to create for myself, and I am so happy that tomorrow I will have the utmost pleasure of seeing her live.

Oh, did I mention she is pretty, and seems like a beautiful human being?

:edit: Oh yeah, Strange Mercy, how fucking good is that album?

And my youngest brother is playing St. Vincent on the piano. I’m so proud.

Re-activate Annie crush.

Is this real? Is Annie Clark really perfection?
